South Metropolitan Planning Council (SMPC) is a coalition of neighborhood and business groups that work together to increase the civic capacity on Madison’s Southside. SMPC does important work in promoting a greater sense of community and collaboration on the southside, and there are numerous ways for you to become involved as a volunteer. For more information, please contact Exec. Director John Quinlan.
We invite you to join us at our general meetings, usually the third Monday of each month at 5:30pm. These meetings generally include featured speakers on topics of interest to south Madison, as well a time of sharing from community leaders and neighborhood-specific reports. All are welcome. Our next general meeting will be on Monday, December 19th at 5:30 pm in the main Community Room at the South Madison Goodman Community Library, 2222 S. Park Street.
Our service area includes 13 south Madison neighborhoods in the area south of Regent Street, extending southward to areas along the Beltline from Seminole Hwy. to Southtowne. Please follow this link for a map of our service area, that includes locations of individual neighborhoods. Please contact SMPC (contact info above) if you’d like to be connected with the neighborhood association in your area.
Please follow this link for a pdf copy of Southern Exposure, our newsletter, a print version of which is available from SMPC and locations throughout south Madison. (File size is about 12 mb.)
SMPC has hosted several recent Celebrate South Madison festivals, most recently on Sept. 22, 2011. Our next festival will occur this summer (details to follow shortly). Please view this video montage of our most recent event, with photos by UMOJA photographer Hedi Rudd:
This website is a work-in-progress. Please revisit this site for further updates on future meetings, and look for a major site revision early in 2012.
